QuestionHui, I have either a peach tree or a plum tree that we transplanted last year, (not sure which one, because we had both trees growing in the same area till a storm killed them, then a sprout came up, and we transplanted it, however the top of the tree (3 ft. tall appears dead the botton 18 inches to 1 ft has leaves, how do I trim this and whn should I do this, I live in northern Ohio. I would love to see it grow, also how can I tell if it is a peach or a plum. thank you for your help. Mary
AnswerHi Mary,
Thanx for your question. Trim off the dead part of the twig now but I wouldn't cut it where it is still alive. Just leave an inch of dead growth and you should be fine. Peach leaves are longer and thing and plum leaves are wider. You can get on Google Images and access "peach leaves" for pictures and then "plum leaves" for pictures and this will guide you. I hope this helps.
