QuestionNeeding some answers.... My child decided she wanted to see if we could get an apple seed to grow out of an eaten Apple... So, as I have done with many other plants i stuck the seeds in just some water. I figured if there was a root/sprout come from the seed she would be satisfied. Now I see that will not be the case.. I have only ever dealt with house plants and a few out door vines..
There are two seeds with sprouts growing.. How do I go about removing from water only to soil? Does that matter..? Should they get bigger before doing this? The sprouts are about a cm longer maybe a little longer on each seed. If/when I can move them to soil, what type is best for them? How big of pots per seed?
Any information and advice is very much appreciated.. My child has become attached to these seeds and wants to watch them grow.
Thank you very much,
Wendy
AnswerYou will need to transplant the seedling into a pot with good fertile potting soil. I would start with an 8" pot with a drainage hole. Be sure to gently transplant the roots straight down. Cover the pot with a clear plastic for two weeks. This will give the seedling enough time to establish it's roots. You will also need to place the pot in a window that gets 8-10 hours of sun. Keep the soil moist, but not drenched. After the roots are established. You can move the pot outdoors and transplant the sapling in the fall.
I hope this answered your question. Please write again if I can ever provide assistance.
