QuestionI've got a Yukka 'tip' I bought 18 months ago and has grown about 1.5 metres. I know that if I chop the 'tip' off allowing enough clearance at the base, it will continue to grow in the soil. But what about the stump? Do I cut it where there are leaves? Will the new growth automatically grow from the stump? Do I have to assist it in some way?
Regards,
Kevin
AnswerHi Kevin,
Thanx for your question. Do you know what type of yucca you have? Generally, with yucca, you can cut it back to the desired height (wherever you deem appropriate, but I would not cut all the way to the soil surface.) and 3 or 4 new heads will form. You don't need to do anything but make sure the plant gets sufficient light and water. It will do the rest on its own. Yuccas will get tall and gangly quickly if they do not receive sufficient light. If yours appears to be growing to fast, make sure it is getting 6-8 hours of direct sunlight.
I hope this helps.
