QuestionI am in central FLorida, My Lychee tree, which is planted in a very large pot, in a sunny location, is filled with clusters of blooms, not ready to open yet. My question?? is now the time to fertilize? What do I do to get these flowers to produce fruit? (The tree is about 5' tall, and 4 years old.) THANK YOU
AnswerNina, once the tree buds, it is a good time to apply the first application of fertilizer. My advice is to purchase a water-soluble fertilizer high in phosphorus. Phosphorus is the second number of the three listed on the front of fertilizer packages. An example would be 10-20-10. Phosphorus promotes fruiting on trees and vegetables.
If you're not sure which product works best, ask the person working at the garden center for a fertilizer high in phosphorus.
Good luck, and please write again if I can ever be of assistance.

Mike
