QuestionI recently purchased seed packets that contain more seeds than I can use this year. The sell-by date on all the packets is 12/09. If stored properly, will they still be good next spring? If so, what is the best way to store them?
If it matters, the seeds I have are...
1. Italian parsley
2. tarragon
3. sweet marjoram
4. German chamomile
5. Genovese basil
6. extra-curled dwarf parsley
7. jewel nasturtium
8. sparkler radishes
9. little finger carrots
AnswerHi Shannon,
Thanx for your question. In general, you should be able to keep these seeds for at least one year, past the sell-by date on the package. Some seeds will keep longer than others.
Generally, place seeds in a glass jar and seal it, ensuring it is dry and kept out of light and extremes in heat or cold (should be a cool, dark, dry room)
Parsley 3 yrs
marjoram 3yrs
basil 8 yrs
nasturtium 5 yrs
radish 5 yrs
carrot 2-3 yrs
I wouldn't keep the tarragon more than one year or the chamomile either. I don't really know how long those two will keep. I hope this helps.
