QuestionGood Day
Thank you for taking the time to answer all the e-mail you obviously receive.
Royal Poinciana
I have a number of seeds, given me by a friend.
Is there a recommended method of sowing them?
I have several in small pots and under a grow light and several in water. I change the water daily...no responses on either method so far.
It's been about two weeks.
AnswerHi Christopher,
Thanx for your question. I love the Royal Poinciana. I gathered seeds from them at a hotel in Ft. Lauderdale once. These beautiful trees also grow in Hawaii and other subtropical and tropical climates. They are a member of the legume family (bean family). Their seed coats are very hard so it always helps to nick the seed of rub it on sand paper a bit or soak it a few days in warm water. This will help speed up germination. They should germinate quickly once their hard coats have been breached or softened. The seedlings will grow quickly if you keep them watered and warm. If you are not in a frost-free climate, these plants must be treated as houseplants. The key is to nick the seed or scrap the surface of it so it can germinate. I hope this helps.
