Adenium seeds, sproting Indoors zone 5


Question
Hello, I have Adenium seeds That I just Put Into A ziplock baggie In enough soil just to barely cover, closed up on a heating pad on low, they have sprouted about a week now, And I have no clue on what to do know It Is late fall going into winter I'm zone 5 (new York),when should (If I can ) put these seedlings In a pot to grow? Will they make it Inside threw the winter any Ideas to help them stay alive?

Hi Amanda,
Thanx for your question.  I guess you have learned the hard way not to start seeds in New York until January or February.  ;o)

I would gently prick the seedlings out and plant them in a cell flat or separate pots and keep them under a 40-watt shop light suspended about 8 inches above them.  Keep them watered and feed them a half strength 12-12-12 fertilizer or fish emulsion according to the directions on the package.  They should make it until spring.  Keep the lights above them about 10 hours a day.  When you take them outdoors after the last frost, keep them in a shady protected place for about 10 days so they can get acclimated to the outdoors and then plant them in the desired garden spot.  I hope this helps.
