QuestionWhat is the best way to get Lime seeds to grow, I have tried several ways and failed.
AnswerThe key is simulating a dormancy period. I always allow my seeds to dry out completely before storing. Once they are dry, I then place them in a sealed ziplock bag, which I place in the back of the refrigerator for a minimum of three months. Once the dormancy period ends, I sow them in a starter medium comprised of a mixture of vertimiculite, peat, and perlite. You can find this mixture at most nurseries. They should germinate within 21 days, but keep in mind, many seeds take well over 30 days to germinate, so you must be patient.
To improve your chances, you should cover the seed tray with a plastic dome. Garden centers sell these as kits, but you could certainly build your own. If you use a small pot, you can place the entire pot in a clear lightweight plastic. This will simulate a greenhouse effect and retain the moisture needed for germination.
Once the seeds do germinate, you will treat them as you would any young seedling.
I hope this answered your question. Please write again if I can ever be of assistance.
