QuestionNot seeding or germination, I'm afraid, but I do need some help. The company from which I purchased tulip bulbs cautioned me against using potting soil with a wetting agent, as bulbs may tend to rot with too much moisture. Can you recommend a potting soil for tulips? We have both Lowe's and Wal-Mart here in Greenville, MS.
AnswerHi Kenneth,
Thanx for your question. I've never had a problem using commercial potting soils with bulbs but here is an easy recipe which guarantees there will be no wetting agents in your mix.
Equal volumes of potting soil, sphagnum peat moss and perlite. I grow my amaryllis in regular Miracle Gro potting soil I buy at Walmart and I never have a problem with that. I've grown a lot of bulbs, tubers and rhizomes in Miracle Gro potting soil and I recommend it. You can get it for a good price at Walmart. I hope this helps.
