QuestionHi, I have a maple seedling I started from seed this spring. It is too little to put in the yard yet. Should I bring it inside for the winter (zone 5), or sink the pot into the ground for the winter? If I should sink it, when should I sink it and when should I pull it back out? Thanks
AnswerHi Leah,
Thanx for your question. I would put the plant in a cold garage or shed for the winter and would not bring it indoors. It needs to go dormant for the winter and the cold won't hurt it if you are protecting it from the north winds. You will still have to water it periodically as though it were out in the rain and/or snow. Another thing you can do is place the pot next to your house, protected from the northwind and surround the pot with mulch. Keep it regarlarly watered and it should be fine. I hope this helps.
