Planting apricot trees from seeds and pollination

Question
Someone gave me some apricot seeds. I live in Indiana and want to know if,

#1. Do apricot trees require cross pollination (two trees) to make fruit?
#2 Will apricot tree seeds from the same tree be able to cross pollinate?

Answer
Hi Mark,
Thanx for your question.  1.  Apricot trees are self-pollinating and do not require another tree however, they will produce more fruit if there is more than one tree in close proximity of each other.
2.  Apricot seeds do not cross-pollinate, the flowers do and yes, as I stated above, the tree is self-pollinating.
As I have stated in past answers, I do not recommend using seed from store-bought fruit.  These fruit have been so vigorously hybridized that the resulting plants you will get will most likely be inferior to the parent plants.  Also, it will take 5-7 years for your tree to fruit after germination.  I hope this helps.
Tom
