QuestionWhat's the best way to cut and root an October Glory as well as a Dogwood?
AnswerHi Betsi,
October Glory is a patented cultivar and it is illegal to propagate this cultivar without permission.
Dogwood can be propagated by taking 4 inch cuttings from the tips of green (softwood) branches. Strip off all but the last 2 leaves. Dip the cut end in a strong rooting hormone which you can find at nurseries. Stick the cutting (dipped end) into a soil less mix or wet sand one inch deep and keep the bottom warm. Maintain humidity by sealing the growing container inside clear plastic. Don't pull on the cuttings to check for rooting. Rooting usually takes place after 8 weeks. You'll note that new green growth will emerge from the cutting when a root system has been established. I hope this helps.
