QuestionI have alot of native ( wild ) persimmon trees but none are bearing fruit!!! Is there something I can do to start the process or are theses all none fruit producers!!!!!!
AnswerHi Keith,
Thanx for your question. Have your persimmons bore fruit in the past? It could be because of the late cold spells we had all over the U.S. which caused a lot of loss for fruit growers because of late frosts. The other reason could be because American persimmons are dioecious which means there are male trees and there are female trees. There must be both sexes within close proximity or there will be no fruit. It is possible that you have a bunch of the same sex in the same area. There is a tree expert on Allexperts named Jim Hyland. He worked with the Forestry Service and I would refer you to him for more information. I hope this helps.
