Thanx for your question. Are you sure what you have is a yucca tree or is it a dracaena?

Many people refer to dracaena as yucca trees. Basically, the piece you cut off can be rooted easily with some rooting hormone but make sure the cuttings that you trie to root are no more than 5 or 6 inches long. The plant will start generating new growth just directly below where you cut and the cuttings you make should root in within 6 or 8 weeks and begin putting out leaves. I hope this helps.
