QuestionHi Mike,
I live in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, a transplant from the state of Ohio. I have asked many people, and everyone tells me that there is NO way I can have a Lilac Bush down here! Is this correct? Thanks a bunch for your time. Carol
AnswerCarol, lilac bushes will only grow in zones 3-7 in the United States. The lower number represents the northern most territory while the higher number is the southern most area.
I am attaching 3 links to the zones, maps, and their associated cities. According to the zone map, Ft. Lauderdale is in zone 10, which means the temperatures are unfortunately too hot for this particular plant.

Good luck, and please write again if I can ever be of assistance.
