QuestionI live in northeastern KY and I have a magnolia tree. I am moving soon and I would like to know if there is anyway I can harvest seeds from my blossoms in order to try and grow a magnolia tree at my new house. My tree always blooms so beautifully and I would love to try my hand and raising a new one. Thank you
AnswerHi Rhonda,
Thanx for your question. Do you know if the magnolia is a hybrid or not? If it is a hybrid, seeds won't help you because when you plant seeds of a hybrid you seldom get anything that resembles the parent plant. If the tree is not a hybrid, does it produce a seed pod? Some magnolias are sterile and do not produce a pod. You might want to consider taking cuttings. This link from the University Florida does a wonderful job of explaining how to do cuttings.

I hope this helps and if it does not, please come back and let me know.
