QuestionJust harvested my garlic and got really nice looking bulbs this time. But there are these smaller looking cloves on the outside of the main bulb, like little bulblets. I have two varieties and both have these smaller bulbs outside of the mother bulb. Are these pups? Can I plant them for a new crop? I tried to upload a proper picture but the site isn't working right.
AnswerHi Linn,
Thanx for your question. The smaller structures on your "mother" bulb are indeed offsets. You can use them (if they are large enough) to plant for a new bulb. Sometimes if they are really small they may not be mature enough to produce a new plant. I'd go ahead and plant them, you should get some new plants. I hope this helps.
