AnswerHi Richard,
Thanx for your question. When one says jasmine, it can mean a lot of things and some of those plants are not really jasmines but have been nick-named jasmines because they tend to have heady scents. Can you be more specific as to what variety of jasmines you would like to grow? The best way to cultivate honeysuckle is either cuttings or layering. For cuttings, take 6 inch cuttings of green wood from this season in the late spring or early summer. Strip off all of the leaves except the last two or three. Remove any blooms. Stick the cutting in rooting hormone and stick the cutting 1 inch deep or so into a pot of warm wet sand. Keep the sand warm and wet and rooting should occur around 8 weeks. Once rooted, plant the cuttings in separate pots until they are well developed and then plant them in the desired locations after having them spend 10 days in the shade protected from rain, direct sun, wind, etc. This is called hardening off. This is the same method used to grow jasmine from cuttings. Layering is when you take a branch that is close to the ground and can be suspended into the ground in part. The part to be suspended in the soil should the scraped through the first layer of tissue and sprinkled with rooting hormone. Place the wounded piece in about 3-4 inches of soil and cover with a rock (this part should still be attached to the main branch attached to the shrub or vine. In about eight weeks the wounded section will root and create a layer or new plant. At this time, if the roots are sufficient, you may cut it from the mother plant and plant it in the desired location. I hope this helps.
