loquat seeds and lavender seeds

Question
I live in Dallas and recently planted some lavender seeds in a potting soil/mulch mix. I planted them about 2 weeks ago and they still have not sprouted. Along side of that pot, and on the same day, I planted spearmint which has sprouted successfully? Should I expect the lavender to take longer to germinate in the same conditions (partial sun/moist, well-drained soil, about 70-90 degrees) as the spearmint?

Also, I was in south TX and picked some dried loquat seeds off of the ground. I put them in a plastic bag with moist potting soil and stuck them in the fridge. I did this with cherry seeds and it helped them germinate and they sprouted while in the fridge. Should I expect the same with the loquat seeds or should I plant them in soil with partial sun ASAP?

Thanks for your service,

Mike

Answer
Hi Mike,
Thanx for your question.  Lavender can take several weeks to germinate so be patient.  I believe they will emerge soon.

Loquat seed doesn't need cold stratification (cold treatment).  Loquat seed should be washed and planted as soon as possible from the flesh of the fruit.  They germinate readily in warm conditions.  Cherry seeds do require cold-treatment.  I would plant the loquat seeds now, in separate pots and keep them well watered and well drained and warm.  I hope this helps.
Tom
