Quince tree / bush

Question
How do I take a clipping from a Quince tree/bush and get it to root?

Answer
Hi Debbie,
Thanx for your question.  The easiest way to root a quince shrub cutting is to find a long branch you can anchor to the ground easily.  Brush a portion of the outer covering of the branch and sprinkle some rooting hormone on it.  Bury the bruised section (still attached to them other plant) in about 3-4 inches of soil and place a rock on top to anchor it.  This is called layering.  In about 8 weeks you will notice new growth and the branch will have rooted.  Dig it up and cut it from the mother plant and you can plant it wherever you like.  The other way is to take 6 inch cuttings and strip them of all but the last 2 or 3 leaves.  Dip the cut end into rooting hormone and stick in a pot of warm, wet sand.  Keep the sand warm and wet and in about 8 weeks you'll have rooting.  I hope this helps.
Tom
