QuestionI've been tring to find out about the best time to remove
seeds from the poppy plant.
Do I remove them as soon as the petals have dropped off and dry them artificially, or do I need to wait until the seed pod has dried on the flower and is ready to fall?
Thank you.
AnswerHi Steve,
Thanx for your question. Allow the seed pod to dry out. Take a look at it every day and when it is brown, remove the pod and break it open over a white paper plate. Store the seeds in a sealable glass jar and keep it in a dark, cool place until you're ready to plant. You can broadcast seed in the fall or spring. Fall planted seedlings may result in sparse blooming the following year. Spring planted seeds (if you're speaking of the Oriental poppy) will require two seasons before they bloom. I hope this helps.
