QuestionI Live in S. Fla and wnat to root my own how do i start
AnswerHi Peter,
Thanx for your question. The easiest way is to locate a plant where the owner will let you start a plant via layering. The way you layer a shrub or vine is to take a section of the branch that is close to the ground, gently scrape away a bit of the bark and dust the wounded area with a rooting hormone which you can find at a good nursery. Bury the scraped area under 3 or 4 inches of bark. Next, place a rock on top to keep the branch from slipping out of the soil. You should have a rooted lay in about 8 weeks. Dig it up and cut it off of the mother plant and plant it in the desired location. Another way is to make 6 inch cuttings from new wood (greener and less brown) dip the cut ends into rooting hormone and bury 1-2 inches deep in warm, moist, sand. Keep the medium moist and warm and rooting should take place in about 8 weeks. When rooting indoors, the plants will have to be acclimated when you take them outdoors. That means pot them up in separate pots and then place them in a place that is free of direct sunlight, rain, wind and other weather extremes for 10 days. After that, plant the cuttings in direct sunlight. I hope this helps.
