Corn

Question
I have finished planting my garden and my question is, after planting corn, about how long does it take to break through the ground, not a big issue but was just curious. Thanks Sam

Answer
Sammy, corn normally takes between 14 and 21 days to germinate. However, this can be affected by a few days either way depending on the soil temperature.

Most of the new hybrids are very sensitive to cold soil. If the temperature of the soil is below 68F, the seed will not germinate. If left in the cool wet soil too long, the seed can rot. That is why I always recommend waiting to sow corn seed until 7 days following the average last frost date in your area. Here in the midwest, that is normally around May 15th.

I hope this answered your question. Please write again if I can ever be of assistance.

Regards,

Mike
