QuestionHow to remove seed from pod, plant the seed and future care
AnswerHi Dean,
Thanx for your question.
Collect seeds when the cone structures fall to the ground.
A woody casing surrounds the seed which is covered by a thin reddish-yellow/orange pulp-like substance. Remove this pulp because it will prevent the seeds from germinating. Scrape the seeds and then wash them.
Score the seed gently with a sharp knife. (Make a small knick in the shell) so that the seed will germinate more quickly.
I let my seeds soak in warm water for three or four days.
Sow the seeds in separate pots and keep them moist (not soggy) and warm. I put a piece of clear plastic over the pot to keep the humidity up.
It seems to me the last time I tried this it took the seeds several months to germinate. I hope this helps.
Tom
