QuestionQUESTION: I have a fruitless mulberry tree and I would like to start another fruitless mulberry from the tree is it possible to start and will it be fruitless?? Thank you.
ANSWER: Hi Ann,
Thanx for your question. You can take cuttings from this tree but just because this tree does not fruit does not mean that its progeny will not. There are a number of reasons why a tree does not fruit. Go ahead and take some cuttings and see what happens. I hope this helps.

QUESTION: How can I get the fruitless type? How is it done from scratch. I would like to learn how to do my own. Thanx
AnswerHi Ann,
Thanx for the followup. If you have a tree that is not bearing fruit, chances are, clones (cuttings), will do the trick. In the late spring and early summer take green branch cuttings about 6-8 inches long and strip all but that last two leaves off of the cutting. Dip the cutting in rooting hormone and stick the cutting 1 inch deep in wet, warm sand or soil less mix. Keep the humidity up by placing under plastic and keep moist but not soggy. Rooting should take place in 8 weeks or so. I hope this helps.
