QuestionI have alot of 4inch canary palm tree seedling on the way, I plan to start them in a greenhouse,(starting a Palm Tree farm in Lower Alabama) I need to know what kind of potting soil mix would best grow the seedlings. As far as aditives and fertilizer go,there's lots of info out there. Any help you can give will be most appreciated.
AnswerHi Tassie,
Thanx for your question. I have started palm seeds on many occasions and just use a good quality potting soil to start them out. They grow slowly so get a bag of the potting soil that has the slow-release fertilizer. Once your seedlings are a month old or so, start feeding them by watering them with water that has had a diluted amount of fish emulsion added. I would make it half strength for now. After about a year, you'll want to give the seedlings the full solution. I think this is the easiest way to go and still get good results without making things unnecessarily complicated. I hope this helps.
