QuestionI am looking at growing a few varieties of desert trees. Can the majority of them be successfully grown from cuttings? If so, do I just take a cutting from any part of the tree and plant it, or soak it first, etc. What time of year is best? (I live in the HOT southwest.)
AnswerHi Mark,
Thanx for your question. Many trees and shrubs can be successfully propagated from cuttings. In the late spring or early summer, take 6inch green wood cuttings and strip them of all but the last two or three leaves. Dip the cut end into a rooting hormone and stick one inch deep into warm, wet sand. Keep misted and warm and rooting should take place within 8 weeks sometimes longer. I hope th is helps.
