QuestionDear Tom,
Would you be so kind to reiterate (reprint) the number of differing methods to germinate a citrus seed?
I have read so many different methods, which is best?
I recently germinated lemon seeds by soaking in the tap water. I changed the water daily and in a few weeks one of the seeds began to root.
I planted that seed in potting mix. Now, I do have a small 1-2 inch sapling growing in a small container. It has several small leaves but I believe them to be, "not true leaves"?
AnswerHi Christopher Joe,
Thanx for your question. All I have ever done with citrus seed is allow them to dry out for a couple of days, stuff them in a pot of good potting soil and then cover them with about 1/4-1/2 inch of soil, keep the soil moist but not soggy and warm. Germination takes place in 2 weeks or maybe a bit more depending upon the variety of citrus. It has always worked well for me. The first two leaves are seed leaves, after that, they're for real! Good luck and I hope this helps.
Tom
