Propagation of Patio Rose

Question
Hello We live in southern Ontario Canada. We have the following plant and since it is no longer available locally I would like to try to propagate it to have a secure supply as it is my wifes favourite rose Varietal name: POULrek; Patio; aka: Cristel Palace. I thank you in advance for your help with this question.

Answer
Hi Ted,
Thanx for your question.  There are several things you can do.  You can take 6-8 inch cuttings and dip the cuttings in rooting hormone.  Stick the cuttings in a pot of warm, wet sand or soil less mix.  Keep the medium moist but not soggy and it must stay warm.  These cuttings root quite easily but it's a bit late in the year for your area to start rooting this plant.  You'll have to keep the pot indoors once the weather starts getting cold.  If the plant is growing outdoors in the ground, take some of the branches that can be easily bent onto the ground.  Scoop out a shallow depression in the soil and gently wound the branch part that will lay in the depression (just scrape it a bit with a sharp knife), cover the branch in the depression with soil and place a rock on top to keep the branch from coming back out.  Next spring, it will have rooted and you can dig it up and snip it off of the mother plant and replant it in direct sunlight.  I hope this helps.
Tom
