QuestionI do hope you can help me.. I would like to gather some seeds from my wax begonias to start next year. where do I fine the seed. I would also like to find the seeds to my geraniums too. I would really appreciate your help, as I have looked all over in various books and have even asked experts in my garden stores. They can't seem to help me either. Thanks
AnswerHi Joyce,
Thanx for your question. Wax begonias are so much easier to start from cuttings. Just stick a cutting in water and in a short time, it will start rooting. The seeds are like dust, so you should shake spent flowers gently over a white napkin. Seeds must be planted 4-6 months before last frost and the seedlings take a long time to develop. Here is a link you may find useful. http://www.yardener.com/PlantingWaxBegonia.html Geranium seeds are also small although not like dust, more like a small hard dot from light brown to black at the end of the dried up spike from the bloom. I had trouble getting to these before they dropped off into the soil. You might want to tie a piece of paper around the spent flower so if the seed does fall off it will fall into the paper. I hope this helps.
