QuestionI have a beautiful slow growing golden Leylandi type conifer and a ground hugging deep blue green fir (unknown type) growing in my garden and would like to take some cuttings and grow on. Can I treat the cuttings as I would for say Privet or Cotoneaster? Or is there a special method for these particular types of tree.
AnswerHi Rex,
Thanx for your question. Conifers are notoriously hard to root cuttings but it can and is done. You need a stronger solution of rooting hormone. I would go to my local nursery and ask for the stronges hormone available. If it's Rootone skip it. I know I have recommended it in the past but it doesn't work in my experience with conifers. Try this site. http://www.rooting-hormones.com/advliqu.htm
It is somewhat technical but I think it has the data for which you are searching. I hope this helps.
