QuestionI have a mature aspen that has a baby about 4 feet tall near its trunk about 7 feet away. I would like to move the baby to a location where it can grow un obstructed. How is the best way to move it without hurting both trees?
AnswerHi Boyd,
Thanx for your question. Dig down deeply around the baby and it is probably a sucker attached to the mother tree. When you locate enough root material, sever it from the mother with a sharp, sterilized knife (sterilize with a chlorine bleach mixture of 1 part to 10 parts water, dip in the knife after every cut). When planting the baby, dig a whole deep enough to accommodate the root without crowding it. Plant the baby a few inches deeper that where it was before. Water profusely and side dress with compost or cured manure. I Hope this helps.
