QuestionI WANT TO PLANT SOME SEEDS FROM MY SOUTHERN MAGNOLIA TREE. DO I PLANT THE RED SEEDS THAT ARE IN THE LONG CONE? WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE. I SEE SMALL TREES UNDER MANY MAGNOLIAS BUT HAVE NEVER SEEN ONE GERMINATE UNDER MY TREE. IT'S 40 YEARS OLD AND GORGEOUS. THANK GOODNESS HURRICANE RITA SPARED IT, ALTHOUGH MY HUGE PINE TREES WERE LOST.
AnswerHi Patricia,
Thanx for your question. Many years ago, I lived in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida. The area was chock full of Magnolia grandiflora, the huge flowered, shiny leafed magnolia growing in amongst the Southern Pine forest along the Gulf Coast. They are truly magnificent trees. Here is a link from Texas A&M that tells how to grow the seed. I hope this helps.
