Questionin a mixture of seeds this year beautiful sunflowers came up in my ocala florida garden...zone 8...never realized how pretty or easy they were...my question...do they reseed themselves or should i pick and dry and then plant again...if i pick and dry is it the seeds like we eat that i save to plant? sorry to sound so beginner but i am new to florida gardening....thanks very much
AnswerHi Lydia,
Thanx for your question. I'm guessing the chances are good that this sunflower is a hybrid and the resulting seeds will not breed true to the original plant form. Sunflowers will reseed and you never know with hybrids what might come back. Of course, you can save some of the seed for next year and guarantee that something will result. Sunflowers are annuals and will perform as annuals even in zone 8. Beginner questions are fine. That's what we're here for. I hope this helps.
