QuestionAHA! The northern way of keeping seeds until time to plant must be the answer to how plants are ready for Christmas when they are now blooming naturally in mid-July. That was going to be my question -- how to force budding at a specific time, like Christmas, in hot Florida. Google got me here. I can send you a foto of this beautiful white with red veins amaryllis (I think) that I saved from the garbage about 5 years ago.
AnswerHi Marie,
I have been growing my amaryllis for many years now. They love to be somewhat rootbound, so I have them in the same container. I leave mine in the basement, no water or light, just a dark, cool, not freezing basement and then bring them up when I'm ready for them to start blooming. Once the bulbs are watered regularly and returned to a sunny, warm environment, they will send up their blossom stalks rather quickly. I think it takes a couple of weeks, so I would start watering the bulbs about the first of December and they should be flowering a little bit before Christmas. I hope that helps.
