QuestionShould I be deadheading the spent blooms of my princess lilies, and how far back should I go on the stem?
AnswerKen, deadheading is important because it causes the plant to force its energy to the roots and bulbs for larger plants the next year. If left on the stem, the blooms will produce seed pods. The plant will then expend all of its energy into producing seed at the expense of larger bulbs. In regard to how far to cut, I always recommend down 1/3 of the stem when deadheading.
Good luck, and please write again if I can ever be of assistance.

Mike
