QuestionHi Mike; Googled my question and got your website. I have beautiful day lillies, but when the blooms start to die off, what do I do? Is there a way to get them to bloom again this summer?
Thanks
Rosie
AnswerRosie, day lillies only bloom once per year, as do many other perennials. They multiply every year, adding twice the blooms from the year before.
It is always a good idea to deadhead spent blooms. Simply cut them just below the seed pod. This will force the plant into expending all of its energy into the bulb, resulting in more blooms the following year. Otherwise, the plant will spend its energy into producing seeds.
I hope this answered your question. Please write again if I can ever be of assistance.
Regards,
Mike
