jasmine

Question
i had bought a Jasmine Sambac a couple of years ago and it used to produce flowers in profusion. Last winter, i didnt bring the plant inside and it seemed like the plant died in the cold (I live in Durham, NC). But in spring, I saw new growth emerging from the roots, not from the stems and branches which were devoid of any leaves. And it looks exactly like the old jasmine plant. But after growing upto about 6-7 inches, it has now stopped growing and there are no flowers or buds either. Do I just need to change the soil? I haven changed the pot in 2 years and the soil is still the same. Or is it a worthless plant now?
Please advise. I really would love to see it flower and flourish. Thanks!

Answer
Hi Niren,
Thanx for your question.  Instead of repotting just yet, I would trim it of dead growth and then give it a 1/2 strength feeding of a balanced fertilizer 12-12-12 and then wait a couple of weeks to see how it does.  This plant needs full sun to partial shade and does not like soggy soil but don't let the soil get too dry.  I hope this helps.
Tom
