QuestionHow and when do I harvest seeds from Inpatients? I have many colors and would like to keep their seeds for next spring. Also, how would I store them throughout the winter months? I live in zone 4.
Thank You,
Jennifer
AnswerHi Jennifer,
Thanx for your question. Once the impatiens have bloomed there will be a green pod a bit smaller than a small pea. Allow it to dry out a bit but pick it before it pops open. You will find a number of tiny black seeds inside. Keep them in a glass jar or plastic bottle, air tight, in a dark place, free of moisture, heat and extreme cold. Now bear in mind, most impatiens are hybrids and seeds will generally not produce plants that resemble the parents. Sometimes the results are inferior (more times than not). However, it is fun to save seeds and see what one gets. I say, go ahead and save and try and see what happens. Let me know! I'd be interested. I hope this helps.
