QuestionI have seeds from several hardwood type trees and I would like to know the best way to propagate them.I was told to put the seeds in water[how long?] before putting them in the seed bedThe trees are Kurrajong,Bahinia
AnswerHi Wayne,
thanx for your question. Do you live in Australia? The Kurrajong does not require any special preparation. I've grown bahinia from seed too and it does not require any special preparation. Seeds should be planted about 10 mm deep. Keep the pots well watered and warm. Germination happens quite quickly with the bahinia. I don't have experience with the Kurrajong, but, most tree seeds native to tropical and subtropical areas germinate rather quickly. I'd say within 2 or 3 weeks if not sooner. The key is to keep the growing medium warm (about 25C). Once the seeds germinate, wait until they have their first set of true leaves and then gently prick them out and plant in several pots. Allow the saplings to become robust and healthy before transplanting in your yard. I hope this helps.
