Crepe Myrtle

Question
QUESTION: Our crepe myrtle has two main stems which are joined at ground level.  Someone accidently ran over one section and broke the plant at ground level.

Can it be saved?
ANSWER: Hi Barb,
Thanx for the question.  I would sever the branch completely off and if you want, you can cut the stems in 8 inche sections, strip off all but two or three leaves at the end of each cutting and then dip the cut end in a rooting hormone, available at most nurseries (Rootone).  Stick these cuttings two inches deep in a soil less mix and keep it warm and damp.  Rooting usually takes place ina a couple of months.  Check after 8 weeks by probing gently with a pencil to look for roots.  Also, new green growth will begin to appear once roots are established.  Pot rooted cuttings up separately and then place outdoors in the shade for 10 days to get them used to being outside.  Then plant in full sun.  I hope this helps.

QUESTION: I have the rooting hormone, but I don't know what a soil less mix is.

Answer
Hi Barb,
Thanx for the follow up.  Go to your local nursery, Home Depot and Walmart don't know what this is.  You need to go to a garden center that only specializes in plants and growing medium.  they'll know what soil less mix is.  It is a growing medium that has no real dirt in it.  If you can't find soil less mix, use sand that is kept very moist.  I hope this helps.
