Transplanting Zinnia

Question
Hello...  I am in Tampa, Florida and very new to all of this!   I put some Zinnia seeds in a pot and they are growing, growing, growing.   They are tall and skinny, but seem so fragile still - so I am wondering when is it a good time to transplant them.  And, if they are only one or two inches tall when transplanted, should I mulch around them?   The soil here is very sandy and right now they are in potting sol.  Don't know if that makes a difference or not.

Answer
Hi Yolanda,
Thanx for your question.  Place the pot of zinnia seedlings outdoors in a semi-shaded place where they will be safe from extremes in wind, rain, hail and full sun for about 10 days.  They should be a few more inches tall by then and you can safely prick them out of the pot and plant them individually in your garden.  Sandy soil doesn't matter.  Zinnias are pretty tough.  Unless you have a drought, your rainfall in Florida should be sufficient but if it starts to get dry, go ahead and water them once a week.  I hope this helps.
