Princess Lily

Question
How do you propogate a Princess Lily from a growing plant?  Are you able to do this from a cutting or by splitting the bulb?  If you split the bulb, at what union do you split?

Answer
Jessica, I never recommend cutting a bulb except for ones that are comprised of cloves, such as garlic. It is too risky and seldom is successful due to rotting or disease.

Cuttings are the easiest and preferable method. Just remove a cutting that is soft and not woody; dip it in rooting compound (available in most garden centers); and then plant it in a good potting soil. Water the soil until water drips from the drainage hole of the pot. Cover the pot with clear plastic to retain moisture. After two weeks, softly tug on the cutting to ensure that the roots have established. At that point, you can remove the plastic and care for the plant as you would any seedling.

I hope this answered your question. Please write again if I can ever be of assistance.

Regards,

Mike
