Hi Joan,
Thanx for your question.  Poppies cover a wide range of climates.  Most poppy seed can be tossed into the garden in the fall and will result in flowers in the spring.  Other poppies can be started indoors and transplanted into the garden in the spring.  Most poppy seed should be broadcast over the desired garden area in late fall.  I hope this helps.
