Question Hi Tom. I started a cherry tree from a seed and it's about two feet tall. The trunk divides into two main branches at about six inches and two opposing branches below those. Could you please explain how and when to begin pruning this young tree.
Sincerely,
Ken Medeiros
AnswerHey Ken,
Thanx for your question. Let the tree grow to at least 5-6 feet tall before thinking about chopping anything off of it. Hopefully, I'll still be around when that happens and I hope you will come back and we can collaborate on how we're going to groom this tree. Basically though, one allows the tree to grow tall enough until it starts branching out andone allows it to bear a few fruit and then, start pruning away unproductive or dead branches. That's a start. I hope this helps.
Tom
