QuestionI have a Shefflera that sprouted a side shoot near base of the plant and I took it off and I found what i think maybe the start of roots and i have placed it into some soil and was wondering what i need to do to encourge root growth. One other thing I nocited was that the leaves have only three leaflets on them and I am wondering if this growth would change if it grows
AnswerStephen, you need to retain moisture for the plant until the roots are fully established. To do this, simply cover the pot with a clear, light-weight plastic bag and place it on a northwest window sill or under flourescent lights.
Mist the plant when dry to help keep the humidity level high. The soil should be damp, but not soaked. Within four weeks, the roots should mature to the point where the plant can be cared for as you would any other seedling.
Good luck, and feel free to write again if I can ever provide assistance.
