QuestionI want to make more trees for my property with trees I already have. How do I do that? I have Smoke Trees and Sand Cherry.
AnswerHi Linda,
Thanx for your question. The two easiest ways are:
1. Plant seeds in the fall. They should come up in the spring.
2. Take branches that hand low to the ground. Dig a small depression in the ground about 2 inches deep and place the branch over the depression, cover with dirt and place a rock on top of it so it will stay put. The branch will root by the end of the season. Wait until spring though and cut the main branch away from the rooted piece.
You can also take the seedlings which may already be growing around the main shrubs and replant them where you desire them. Also, some small plants that are actually still attached to the mother plant (called suckers) can be dug and detached from the main plant as long as it has plenty of roots and move it to the desire place.
I hope this helps.
