Dragon Fruit/strawberry pear/Pitahaya

Question
I'm interested in growing the above fruit in a Mediterranean climate in Australia. We are now in Autumn and Spring is in September. Can you tell me when these should be planted and when they will mature? Relevant info such as seed spacing depth, and fertilising is welcome also.

Answer
Lawrence,
Thank you for your questions.  I live in the very center of the Midwestern area of the United States.  Your climate is equivalent to a California climate.  In Kanas we have harsh winters and desert-like summers.  Dragon fruit, Strawberry pear and pitahaya are easily grown in your area.  I accessed your government webpage and would suggest that you do so also  www.affa.gov.au/
In the United States our United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) known, world-wide regulates our agricultural and horticultural activities.  We have agricultural and horticultural extension projects in almost every county of ever state in this country. I think your government offers the same options.  I lived in sub-tropical and tropical areas of the U.S.  You are in a sub-tropical to tropical area of Australia.  I should like to think that you can plant any of these plants deeply enough to cover the roots and  not have a problem with frost.  When planting any plant, dig the hole deep enough to comfortably accept the rootball.  Once you have planted the specimen, make sure it is amply covered with soil, water for abot 5 minutes and you are done for the time being.
