QuestionHi there, I have collected some seed pods from some Rose of Sharon, Wisteria, and Perennial Hibiscus. Should I just throw (plant)these seeds in the garden where I want them to come up at now or should I store them until next year and then plant them. Thank you!!

AnswerI always prefer to save the seed since I normally till the area and mulch over it in the spring. Cultivating the soil could reduce germination of seeds from the previous season.
To store seed, allow them to dry in a paper bag or on a paper towel for 3 days. Once dry, you can remove the seeds from their pods. Place the seeds in a ziplock bag, and store the bag in a sealed tupperware container in the back of your refrigerator over the winter. The dry cool condition will simulate the dormancy period required for seeds to germinate. Then next year, after cultivating the soil, plant the seeds outdoor wherever you wish, or start them indoors in late winter or early spring for a headstart to the planting season.
I hope this helps. Please write again if I can ever be of assistance.

Mike
