QuestionI was given some seeds by a friend who called them "Bella Noche" seeds from a plant he grew last year. The plant developed seed pods which is where the seeds came from. Apparently it's white flowers bloomed in the evening with a wonderful smell. I have done several searches with no luck for the name he gave me. Can you tell what you think this plant might be and how and when I should plant the seeds? I live in St. Louis.
AnswerKathy,
I believe what you have is Mirabilis jalapa "Bella de Noche". Or in other words Four-o-Clock "Bell of the Night". This is a plant that truly blooms at night. I wouldplant the seed once the ground warms up some more, probably around May 1.
Good luck
Gary
